My Rating: 4 Stars
Its actually over y’all! The Falling Kingdoms series is over. No more Magnus and Cleo, no more Nic and Ashur. HOW WILL I GO ON, MORGAN RHODES? HOW?! I discovered this series last year and was just immediately hooked. It was full of magic and romance and betrayal. I never knew what to expect next, Rhodes is entirely unpredictable. And the things she does to my heart! The end of Crystal Storm was just mean…mean. I came ridiculously close to tweeting Morgan and asking HOW she could be so cruel to my love Magnus.
Now, if you haven’t read the rest of the series, STOP READING! I don’t want to spoil you for these amazing books. I will say this: read them. Go to the library, order them on amazon, go to your nearest Indie and READ THEM. Then we can be friends again (yes, I say again because until you read them, we are not friends – consider yourself on friend probation). Now, onto the review!
I will preface my thoughts by saying this: I doubt anything could top Crystal Storm for me. It was just such an eventful book, so much happened. There was love, betrayal, murder, and just so much wonderful craziness that it was incredible. Because I loved Crystal Storm so much, I expected A LOT from Immortal Reign. For the most part, Morgan Rhodes delivered. The series was well wrapped up, the book kept me interested and intrigued, and I got to see more of my love, Magnus – always a plus.
However, the pace of Immortal Reign was just a bit slower for me. I didn’t breeze through it as quickly as I did the other books in the series. There was still a ton of intrigue and some betrayal, but I wasn’t surprised by the ending like I wanted to be.
That being said, it was still a 4 star read for me. I loved the characters, the magic was fascinating, and the romance was, as always, on point. There were still unexpected twists and deaths, power hungry villains, and all of the amazing things I expect from Morgan Rhodes.
It did wrap the series up nicely for me, and gave me hope for a spin off. The adventures of Nic and Ashur please? Yes? Don’t make me write fan-fiction…I’ll do it and nobody wants that.
My Takeaway: A solid ending to one of my favorite series’. Though Immortal Reign wasn’t the best in the series, in my opinion, it was still a great read. Really, nothing could’ve topped Crystal Storm for me. The end left me hoping for a spin off series, but if one never comes I am content with the the way Rhodes left things.
