Furyborn – Claire Legrand

34323570

When assassins ambush her best friend, the crown prince, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing her ability to perform all seven kinds of elemental magic. The only people who should possess this extraordinary power are a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light and salvation and a queen of blood and destruction. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven trials to test her magic. If she fails, she will be executed…unless the trials kill her first.

A thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a mere fairy tale to bounty hunter Eliana Ferracora. When the Undying Empire conquered her kingdom, she embraced violence to keep her family alive. Now, she believes herself untouchable–until her mother vanishes without a trace, along with countless other women in their city. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain on a dangerous mission and discovers that the evil at the heart of the empire is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world–and of each other.

My Rating: 5 Stars

Okay, before we get to the good stuff, I need you to do two things. First, look at the cover of this book. Isn’t it GORGEOUS? That isn’t even the final cover! That’s right, this cover is just a warm up for the final release. Now, read the synopsis. Go ahead, I’ll wait…Doesn’t it sound freaking incredible? The synopsis does not do this book justice. It doesn’t prepare you for the 490 pages of pure awesome this novel packs.

Why am I raving about this book’s amazingness like a damned lunatic, you ask? Well, lets see: elemental magic, immersive and beautifully written world, total badass female main characters, intriguing villains, lots of action, and hot guys. If you’re not already sold on Furyborn, I will continue. If you are (as you should be) there is a pre-order link at the bottom of my review.

Furyborn takes place over the span of two generations and is told from the perspectives of two female leads. What really blew my mind was the way that the chapters were set up. I can’t even imagine the amount of plot planning this must have taken, because the two storylines take place completely separately, but are intricately linked. The POV changes every chapter, and the MCs never meet, but the book is still completely cohesive. It really blew my mind. My mind is still blown just thinking about it, if I’m honest.

The romance, while existent, added to the plot without taking it over. In a balance that few authors can manage, the romance is essential to the plot without being the whole plot.

I just, really cant say it enough – read this book. It sucked me in and left me reeling. The world building is fantastic without being overwhelming, the characters are well developed, and the magic is unique and interesting. I am willing to offer Claire Legrand and Sourcebooks both of my cats and maybe even my little sister for the next book in the series.

Keep an eye on my Instagram for my picture of this gorgeous book – I bought a crown specifically for it! 🙂

My Takeaway: Mind blown. Breath taken away. Ability to form sentences destroyed. This book rocked my damn world and I need someone to read it now so I can gush like a fangirl with them. Also, Claire, let me know where I need to send my cats and little sister in exchange for the next book. I’ll overnight them.
